Conformation

We exhibit our purebred Irish Water Spaniels at dog shows to demonstrate how they conform to the established breed type. The reason for this is that we want all the physical and behavioral characteristics of Irish Water Spaniels to continue. Breeders get together at conformation dog shows to have a respected judge evaluate our breeding stock and to compare our stock with one another.

Excelling in these events demonstrates having well-constructed dogs that have been bred true to the purpose of Irish Water Spaniels. They are to be a large, rugged but moderate water retrieving dog that is also versatile enough in design to do upland game. They should also demonstrate the proper friendly temperament at these shows while surrounded by potentially thousands of other intact dogs. They can be aloof with strangers but never shy; and they should also be intelligent, eager, funny and inquisitive.
